Icarus ran in the dark through the maze beneath the palace. Behind him the padding of the Minotaur's feet and his heavy breathing echoed down the false corridors and winding ways.

Burnt into Icarus' memory was his only sight of the Minotaur, just before he had been released into the maze...

Lit by the glow from her face, Pasiphae, daughter of the sun, Minos' queen, had descended into the pit. She spoke softly to her monster son who trembled, shook the sweat from his naked body and stood still while Pasiphae unwound from him the chains that had bound him for seven years.
