Wednesay 6 April 1994After walking so much yesterday, first thing this morning I bought a week's ticket for the tube. Then strolled along the Thames Embankment past Cleopatra's Needle.
Joined a queue at Westminster Palace and ended up sitting in the Visitor's Gallery at the House of Commons listening to the Queen's English with much more civility than I expected. Over the road is Westminster Abbey which is a perfectly lovely building encrusted with gunk--soot on the outside and carvings, statues, effigies and other grotesqueries inside. What I could see of Henry VII's chapel, which is being restored, was exquisite.
Then Buck Palace. Then more shopping. My Visa card is running hot.
A cruise on the Thames at high tide and a concert at the Barbican--modern stuff--an improvement on last night.
