Andrew said yesterday 'Don't look at them. Looking at them only reinforces their behaviour by giving them attention. Instead, work out beforehand a privately understood signal, or use a different tone of voice and just say That's not appropriate behaviour, Sally. Go to the time-out room and wait till I send for you. '

It worked.

But I think it will take me months to get used to the idea of not looking at kids when I'm angry with them. It doesn't seem natural. It goes against the grain.

Andrew gave me a book by Bill Rogers that he said might come in handy.
