My first staff meeting. A sunny meeting at first--then suddenly overcast by the news that the father of one of the girls in my class-to-be, Jenner Jotic, died last Tuesday. His powerboat overturned at high speed while he was practising for the Gillian Bay Regatta to be held the next day (Australia Day).
Poor kid. I wonder if she'll turn up when school starts? How will I comfort her? Susan suggests we make a time for Jenner and I to meet before school goes back. She says the best thing is to communicate gently and truthfully and to focus on the work at hand. Jenner will probably deal with her grief at a much later stage. She's too young now.
I wonder what it's like to have someone you love die?
