While Tri Nguyen tries to shout in his quiet voice, 'Come on, you lot, I'm going to be late for uni.' Mrs Nguyen shoves an extra packet of spring rolls into Sarah's rucksack before Mai can slam the boot lid of Tri's ancient white and rusting Corolla.

'Where's Sarah?' squeals Mai.

'I'll get her,' says Ian.

Tara looks toward the top of the mountain where it rises above Fossil Hill. It's pure white. She dances up and down, hops into the front seat, fumbles her seatbelt.
